The first church, base for the Diocese of Maria Saal was errected in the year 750, a small wooden church. Over the centuries the chruch get rebuild bigger and stronger, specially during the 15th century, were most other buildings were added and also a defence wall was build that time. A great fire destroyed most of the cathedral in the 16th century, but it was rebuild after old plans.
