First mentioned as a castle in 1240, Taggenbrunn was once the residence of the ruler of carinthia. In 1479, the castle was destroyed in battle, but the castle was then rebuilt to its current shape in the 15th century. With the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was a ruin again, but another 100 years later, the castle was renovated and open for public.
