The Castle Gmünd, better known as the Alte Burg is a castle in the build on a hill in Gmünd in Carinthia. The castle was erected in 1252, the same year Gmünd was first called a town. Around 1480, after 7 years of siege by the Hungarians the castle was destroyed. In 1502, it is rebuild and stands another siege in 1525. In the following years, the castle grows in size, until its destroyed again in 1886 by a big fire. After 75 years, the town buys the castle in 1950 and starts renovating the castle to its current shape and uses it as a housing for concerts and other events. In 1992, a castle restaurant was opened too.
