Kölnbrein Dam Reservoir

Kölnbrein Dam Reservoir

The Kölnbrein Dam was build from 1971 to 1979 and is with a total height of 200m the biggest dam in Austria and also the 5th highest building in Austria. The Kölnbreinsperre is designed as a double arch dam and has therefore a very small volume compared to similar sized damn build as gravity dams. The dam is 200m tall and stretches over 600m length. The reservoir behind the dam extends 4,5km and when fully filled, it holds over 200 million m³ of water equal to 588,3 GWh of power. To ensure the dam stays stable, 2500 measuring points on 5 levels are build into the dam, visitors are able to take a tour into the dam and explore the first level.

This is really interesting. How did you manage to take the panorama with no other visitors in the picture?

The rest of the group went along, the guide there was kind enough to give me some space to do my pano works. Beeing a former student of engineering helped a bit to earn his trust :D
