Graz Clock Tower

Graz Clock Tower

The Clock Tower of Graz was build in the 13th century, with first mentions in 1265, but its shape changed over the years, its current shape dates from 1560. The 4 big clock-faces on each side were painted in 1712 and are over 5m in diameter. First, the clock only had a big hour hand for better visibility, later a short minute hand was added. After the French siege in 1809, the people of Graz bought the clock tower back so it wouldn’t be destroyed by the French, the tower became the most important landmark of Graz since that.
