Build in the 17th century because the nearby Jesuits-School was expanding, the history of theSanta Maria Maggiore Trieste is quite unknown. 1682 most of the records and parts of the church were destroyed by fire, the dome as last part of the church wasn’t finished before 1817.
The Teatro Romano di Trieste are the remains of an old roman theather located in the town of Trieste. The theater is located near the town hill near the old center of the city. Build in the 1st century, it was destroyed in the 6th century when triest was under siege by the Lombards. Burried under a new town wall and buildings and not discovered again until the 1940s.
As the largest town sqaure in Trieste, the Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia is also known as the Piazza Grande. The Square is the biggest one near a seaside, and was build while Trieste was the main port of the Austrian Hungarian empire and on it sides are the cities municipal buildings and other important buildings.
